I found a web page with FPGAUpgrade.rar plugin but I can't download it to check if it works. I have the same problem as you. I cannot create an account. Can you download this plugin and post it on the forum? Maybe it's worth checking out.
You mean the RS232 chip in the form of a PCB that is soldered to the motherboard? Probably not a problem, it is not a problem to replace if it is only this board. The question is whether it does not need to be programmed? If so, maybe some file from the clone can match? What do you think about it?

This is not the tool, but the upgrade plugin for the fpga
I can not say for which receiver it is for, thus use it on your own risk, I'm just giving it due your request of it.

As for the rs232 serial chip, indeed, that is placed on the vertical board, behind the db9 serial port.

Using clone files to upload/upgrade to the fpga chip of a original board may always be risky.
Using a fpga upgrade file which is not clear if it's for the receiver you have also.

it was used to fix VU+ Uno tuner which was missing high symbol rate .
for solo2 it needs to be updated via online
further info can be seen here

    @ Aliraza63
I tried with the Uno files. Plugin shows FPGA update but this update doesn't work. I think you need the new initialization file in both examples. This one doesn't work for me. I haven't found such a file for Solo2.

    Re: no power in Solo2..
That could be several things as,
    Defective switch.
Defective or inactive Dc to Dc 5v output circuit.
Issue with the flat-cable front panel or wrong inserted.
Front panel problem, it does not activate all the dc to dc circuits.
See here fore more about this, the next posted dc/dc overview picture may help you.

A weak display could be due the low voltage to it, or the display self is on his end of life.

I asked because I have several Solo2s. I got it as a gift from my friends :). Thanks Johnny for the hint. It's great that you share your knowledge. It is very noble nowadays. I will check everything in order because I am still repairing duo2 in the meantime and there is a replacement of all capacitors:eek:

    ======================================================================
    .... continued

I replaced the front panel with a second working Solo2. The effect is the same. No voltage. So the panel is probably not damaged. Both front panels show the voltage in Solo2 only 12V on U805 U802 U806 U813 U801 chips. All other points in the guide do not show the voltage. This is probably not a front panel error, but rather a motherboard error. What do you think about it?
Is the U801 chip faulty? It sends the current to the front panel?
Where else to look for the fault?
    =====================================================================
    .... continued

flat cable, no power without front panel. Only resistance. The current jumper is unlikely to apply here. Any idea?

You can better take a look of this picture..
There you can see the main delivery U801 which needs the 12v input, and when it works gives the 5v output.
When you do not have this 5v, then all other dc/dc ic's will be inactive.

yes, I saw this photo before and it seems to me that the U801 is damaged. The input is 12V and the current output is missing. Are you suggesting that this is the U801 chip? If you replace it, what parameters does this system have? It has not many markings. What to look for? Are you having this 5 pin microchip?

No that's not the correct one, but based it has a resistor between the ADJ and VOUT pin to give the 5v out, then it is the AP2204 SOT-23-5/PSOP-8 adjust version.
You could maybe also use the fixed version, but then you must have the 5v output version.

Yeah not checked the link afterwards, but okay it's now okay.
And yes, the ones you had showed are fine, but be aware that these are the 5v fixed versions, and the original was the Adj version.
Bur basically a fixed to 5v should work.

Guys, please don't spam this topic. This topic is about HW ERROR, not connected with the power supply problem.
Piotrekop, if you have more that one solo decoders, change FPGA IC and then try to upload SW with the newest kernel. Then we can have a sure, that FPGA IC is broken.

Yeah well, as for the HW Error,
There is a motherboard underway to me with this issue, and I have the plan to swap the fpga chip from one of my spare parts boards to see if it solves the issue.
And I have the idea it may will.

Now, when it works, it may confirm that this HW Error refers to the fpga chip, but not the reason why the previous chip failed.
The best thought about that is that it may related to a upgrade failure, most logic not a defective fpga chip, but the writing to it, and as I already had given earlier, it may related to the rs232 serial chip.
Replacement of it may the solution, after the replacement, and after the online fpga upgrade.

When not, than it could be a writings communication issue between the cpu, and to the fpga chip, or other reason related with writing to the fpga chip.

In any case, that's so far my idea about this issue, I'm not claiming it is, but probably the most logic reason with the idea of that the HW Error sign simply say that the decoding failed due a incompatible image file versus the fpga software version on the fpga chip.

According to the theory that maybe the RS232 port is blocking the FPGA upgrade, I replaced the RS232 with the second Solo2. No effect.
Does not update FPGA as well as before swap. It also does not update drivers online and via USB. So still HW Error.
I have it replaced now in case there is any other idea ..

Okay, thanks for the tryout/testing this idea.
Unfortunately i still have not received my motherboard with this issue, thus I'm still not be able to see if I could figure it out.
