Vu+ Duo2 measurements

These are the U702/U825 measurements however keep in mind that the U702 voltage outputs is not present if the box is not booting up and is as far I see it to feed the fan.

To date I have never known or noticed that these boxes should have WiFi on board, at least not noticed in the box I have. But right now I don't have access to this receiver, but I can on Monday, so I'll investigate tomorrow.

 

Yeah, I now see it, mine has (of course) also this WiFi option, but it's pretty old and thus may not work on all WiFi systems.
I think it's integrated, same as the network in to the U208 RTL8211 chip.


This chip is not so easy to measure without a scope, as also very risky to do, and I have not the impression that it will be a hardware issue when only the wlan of it failed.


Nevertheless, they must at least see it in to their network settings, the Wlan and Network, otherwise, when they only have the network option, than it seems to me more related to the drivers.
Probably they use other drivers than the correct one as for in this case, the drivers for the RTL8211EG


In any case it works in my case without any issues with the openpli 8.0, with no extra drivers added.




Based on this, it seems to me most logic that it's not a hardware failure because all the network is working with one chip, and by a hardware problem it seems to me not logic that then the network part still works.
This seems to me only possible when using drivers which not support the (old) wlan, and thus than also not appears in the menu.
Or when appears, but not connect may be related to the old/new wlan network, or due the weak receive/send signal strength of these wlan chip.

NOTE the above information, as that it's also used for the wifi is incorrect, this chip handles only the network.
I will add the correct info about it soon.

 

Okay, it was a bit hidden behind the front panel but here it is,


When taken a closer look, you see it has the RT5372L chip on it,


And further it is basically an usb Wifi stick, without the usb connector as you can see on this picture, it uses the same four connection as also used with a usb stick.
All the connections for it are coming from the flat cable.


The Data connections (D+/D-) is normally direct from the cpu, the 5v is delivered/controlled by the U402 8pins ic, located after the cardreader of the motherboard.

Detailed description of it,
WIFI module, size: 18*34*1MM, solution:
RT5372L Ralink brand, with two antenna interfaces,
WIFI module requirements voltage 5.0V
pin hole spacing 2.0
external antenna
download frequency 300M

Further there is not much to say more about it, it has a led onboard and this led reacts (flashes) when there is some activity, when not then it's on.

In any case, it is in fact a usb version and can be replaced when needed.

 

I have no idea why you like to connect a wifi board to this fpga chip programmer port.
As also, if it can be done, and will work.

If you like to replace the wifi of the front panel, then the easiest way I think is to take a usb wifi stick and to dismantle it as also removing the usb connector before mounting it.

Other options/ideas are not to use the wifi usb port, or to add wires with a usb connector to it, and to connect a usb wifi stick, or use a usb wifi stick into another usb port.

In any case, all these ideas are only usable if the image file had the drivers for it, or the possibility to add it, otherwise it will also not work.

 

Always educational and exciting, experiment ideas .. but uhmm..

Which chip, the fpga chip for a solo2?

If that's so, and you have some vu+ part, then you could try the fpga chip from a duo2 to the solo2 or from a solo2se etc..
I think that it has a good chance that it will work.
