just wondered why main processor cpu ic on main board gets hot when in standby. i know cpu gets hot when in use ,this is normal, but standby?
As far as I see it, it doesn't matter if the box is in standby or operating. The cpu temp stays the same but in good condition it should be in the operating temperature -40°C ~ 85°C and may higher when it's operating in a warm country. For more about this, google search to vu duo operating temperatures It may give you some ideas how to reduce it.
it would appear that the clone safe v2 image im using ,apollo 023 switches off the fan when in sby , there is an option in fan control for on/off or to set for timer (presume its to keep the hdd cool during timer recordings) ,even when i set timer recordings when it switches on to record fan is not active.
Yes I mostly use fan controller 2 plugin, but I'm not sure if it can control the fan while the box is in standby. Simply, because I'm not a fan to set a device on standby, thus I always switch my receivers off when I not use it.
my duo v2 ,i cant acess addons could i ftp fan controller 2 plugin ? to me it still seems odd that the cpu is very very hot in sby compared to when its on , i may try to mount another fan ,and additional heatsink above the cpu and feed it with 12v just as experiment . its not ideal ,as theres not any vents in the lid above the cpu so the heat will circulate and hopefully escape via the vent for the original fan , or i may try to buy a more effecient fan to replace original . i will let you know if it works a cooler cpu is the aim
You can also let a fan blowing to the heat sink which works better to my experiences, pulling the heath away and using an fan, one with his own temp probe, or build one, is also a possibility. As for installing a plugin by uploading it to the temp dir using the ftp is indeed possible. But since it's software related and I have done it not quite often, it can be better be answered by Toysoft.
your quite right ,blowing towards heatsink works fine , after 30 mins the cpu nice and cool ,with hardly any additional noise . i do take your point re not leaving box in sby ,this is the advice i always used to give to tv buyers thanks, your help is always useful.
