115200/8,n,1 should be correct, and take the time you need, no hurry.

Hi again . I'm back . Sorry for the delay . I've uploaded the serial output of my box at startup . Hopefully there's some useful information there to guide me to my next step . At a glance I can see this error :

"CPU 0 Unable to handle kernel paging request at virtual address 00000004, epc == e08b3038, ra == e07a7118"
    Not sure if it's relevant.

    Thx in advance

I have no direct explanation for the error.
Maybe a driver issue, best is to install openpli, and be sure which motherboard you have, best is to show a picture of it, the motherboard of course.
Because a clone board must have different software than an original one, but I assume that you are already familiar with this.

Anyway, if the installation runs normally, and it refuses while the chosen openpli software should be suitable, then it could be a cpu problem.

Thanks for the reply Johnny . I'm using a Blackhole image , but I'll try and source an openpli one . It's an original VU+ . Not a clone . I'll attach a couple of images just so you can see it . Thanks again for your help . S

OK . Just downloaded and flashed "openpli-8.3-release-vuduo-20230501" . Looks as if I'm still getting the same problem . ....

Hi Johnny . Tried the bootloader and a reflash , but still getting the same error . Looking around I can see that others have had a similar error , although not at the same 00000004 address as mine . To be honest it's not a problem . I picked up another working original VU+ DUO box which I'm using just now for €25 . They're pretty cheap these days as most people have moved to streaming . It's just a shame that I couldn't get it fixed as I don't like throwing things away :) Anyway . Thanks again for all your help !

Yes they are old those first vu+ series but like many others they often have a problem that could be related to the cpu.
And that is quite possible in your case.

However, a sort of similar problem can also arise when one has a clone board, and the original software installers on it.

But the newer software can also cause it, it is often recommended to install very old software, and then see if it helps.
Then if it works install the newer one.

Anyway, you have at least tried to solve it, putting more time into it is often not worth it with the older receivers.
Nevertheless, sometimes, the challenge is more important than it's worth.
I also sometimes repair old PC motherboards, not because it's worth a lot, but as a challenge.

Yeah. As you say , sometimes it's just not worth it. I didn't mind giving it a go though. Anyway. I've stripped it down and removed the psu , fan , and front panel. They might come in useful for parts in the future. Cheers , and thanks again for your time and support.
