    Because there is sometimes confusion between the two errors,
    Frontpanel only red led, or red led and display stuck on starting...
    I have made this drawing.

    However, this is only based on my own experience, so of course, there could be many other solutions be found on this forum than I have specified for now.

    Yeah, the flashing led and remote sensor are feed on the same circuit, maybe there is a voltage missing from the motherboard to it, or on the front panel itself.
    Nevertheless it's wise to first measure the voltage from the front panel connector, or with ohm measurements, or both.
    More about this see this drawing..

    JB,

    Excellent documentation - thank you.

    I am currently trying to revive a clone Duo (v2.0) with the "Starting..." on the VFD.

    I've checked C807 and the caps on the PSU that are common for drying out. All seems in order.
    Then I measured all the resistances detailed in your sheet above. With the exception of one, everything checks out, but it is the "one" that I'm not sure about.
    When measuring P801, Pin 3 (CON) returns a result of over 20M Ohms. (I cannot tell you the exact value as my DMM will only measure to a max of 20M Ohms.
    If you could point me in the right direction as to where the problem might be, I would be very grateful.

    Thanks in advance!

    Hi, if the Con has some issue, then the psu will not be switched on.
    The Con pin is feed from the 5vS, and this 5vS voltage will be passed true (on/off switched) by the front panel.

    So, since you have a display which shows starting on it, you may assume that the Con connection is fine.

    Stuck on starting with a clone box is mostly related to the security chip, or the wrong version bootloader/software.
    If you still are be able to upload a image file by the usb port, then you can better use a old image file as the,
    VU+ Duo VTi - V 6.0.1 - 18.08.2013 Ferrari V2a

    Normally (as a test), this should work with a Vuduo clone box with the v2 security chip and even the v3.
    If you can't upload a image file with the usb port, then the only thing you can do is to do the jtag (I2c) method.

    But before you do something, it's better to connect the box to a pc with the db9 serial null modem cable and see with hyperterminal from windows xp, or putty terminal output why and when it's stops.
    As for the reading (receiving) you can also use a usb to serial cable with windows 7 or higher.
    If you get the Code: (Bad address in epc) than it is related to the security chip.
    Or the chip failed, the system can not read the security chip, or the software is not suitable for the security chip.

    I have here a image which shows when a security chip fails.

    Thank you for your detailed reply.

    I tried last night to read the output from the RS232 port, but my laptop is not equipped with a COM port and using a USB to Serial adapter proved fruitless.

    I'm going to borrow another laptop with a COM port (a very rare thing nowadays!) and try again.

    I know 100% that the box had not been updated in any way since setting it up 2 years ago which makes me suspect a hardware issue rather than software.

    Hi JB,
    I have just tried reading the output from the RS232 port using a laptop with a "proper" COM port, but I'm not getting anything legible in my terminal window, just random characters.
    I still suspect a blown cap but I don't have a suitable DMM to be able to test them.
    Can you suggest anything please?
    Thanks in advance.

    If you are sure that your serial 0 modem db9 cable is good, and so..
    Pin 2 goes to the other side to pin 3
    Pin 3 goes to the other side pin 2
    Pin 5 goes to pin 5
    You use a pc with a good working db9 serial connector.

    But you receive garbage, or nothing in a terminal program.

    Then it could be that the rs232 ic is defective and needs to be replaced for a new one.
    Also, a defective rs232 ic could give influences to the readings of the security chip which could give the symptom as if the security chip has some issues.
    So, by knowing this, and your given results, it could be due the rs232 ic which is placed on the rs232 pcb.

    Good afternoon I have a problem with a vu + duo 2 clone v2
    The problem is that only load two images a blachole and another openpli
    But it leaves me blocked the tuner
    Change condensers check voltages and change 100 times of iamgen but it stays the Starting
    Could be the security chip thank you very much

    If the box is working with openpli or Blackhole and the tuners failed.
    And with other software it stays on Starting.
    Then it's most likely related to the security chip.

    It could be the security chip software which in some cases can be fixed when you upload a update to it.
    It doesn't matter if you just update it to the v2, it just do the job if you lucky.
    And in some cases it could be due the crystal from the security chip, but this you know only if you replace it.
    However, if you don't receive any data with a rs232 serial cable, or garbage, than it could be due the rs232 ic.
    If that fails, the security chip could also fail.

    Also, I'm not sure with it but clone vu2 solo/duo boxes may have another serial pins connection for uploading or fixing the box with Mcu tool and Hyperterminal.
    The normal rs232 cable reading pins are,
    Pc side / box side
    Pin 2 to 3
    Pin 3 to 2
    Pin 5 to 5
    Gnd to Gnd

    And for accessing the security chip,
    Pc side / box side
    Pin 2 to 6
    Pin 3 to 4
    Pin 5 to 5
    Gnd to Gnd

    But for writing/reading the solo/duo2 (clone) boxes it could also be,
    Pc side / box side
    Pin 2 to 1
    Pin 3 to 6
    Pin 5 to 5
    Gnd to Gnd

    Based on the, UNC read error occurred, while reading from NAND flash, it looks to me a Boot loader Error.
    For example, using original or wrong software on a clone box may give this error.

    But there are so many types of duo2 clone boxes that it may be hard to find the correct image file which suits your box.
    Also, even if you use a correct image file, it may still give tuner signal strength issues.
    In that case it's advisable to try a higher or lower version of the same image file.

    If it's due the security chip, I can't tell because I have till now not had a duo2 box with this error.
    But based on a older duo box it should give the EPC error when the security chip fails.

    Best is to give a picture of the motherboard you have, so that I maybe can give you a better advice of which software you need.

    Based on your images you have the Vu+ Duo Ferrari V2 and not the Vu+ Duo2 v2.
    For example a image file as the VU+ Duo : FERRARI OpenPLi 4.0 IPTV GStreamer 1.7.2 MastaG for FERRARI VU+ DUO V2 should work.
    More about this see the Japhar forum as for example this topic to the Openpli Ferrari V2 image files.

    Check if the security chip works.

    Rs232 Cable...
    You need the rs232 serial cable adapter on the receiver side, if you don't have one you must make one yourself.
    In any case, this adapter convert the rs232 db9 0 modem cable pin 3 to pin 6 of the receiver serial port.
    And pin 2 to pin 4 of the receiver side.
    If you want to make a cable without a adapter then you need the,
    pc side db9 female connector pin 2 connect to the receiver db9 female connector pin 6
    and
    pc side db9 female connector pin 3 connect to the receiver db9 female connector pin 4
    More about this see this drawing.

    Terminal program..
    You need a terminal program as Putty or Hyperterminal to see if the security chip works.
    Use the Bits per Seconds value 19200 for this job.

    An V2 Ferrari security chip must give the output,
    +UPDS-great
    Only then it works well, if you receive something else than let me know.
    Anyways, more about this see this topic Vu box security chip test.

    Serial cable...
    A serial DB9 null modem cable must be like this and is for the readings of the box itself,
    Female to Female DB9 connectors.
    Pc side -------->Box side
    Pin 2 -------------> pin 3
    Pin 3 -------------> pin 2
    Pin 5 -------------> pin 5
    Gnd to Gnd
    But based on your previous post you already have this cable.
    To receive the box output, use a terminal program as putty or windows hyperterminal.
    Use the Bits per Seconds value 115200

    adapt.jpg
    Adapter, (Ferrari) Clone Receivers only...
    The adapter needs to be connected to the box side, it's to read/write to the security chip, so you must also use the null modem cable, it change the pins to access the security chip pins..
    Male to Female DB9 connectors.
    Cable side ----->Box side
    Pin 2 -------------> pin 4
    Pin 3 -------------> pin 6
    Pin 5 -------------> pin 5
    Gnd to Gnd
    To read or write to the ferrari security chip, use a terminal program as putty or windows hyperterminal.
    Use the Bits per Seconds value 19200

    Or both, cable+adapter to one........,

    cable.jpg
    Serial cable and adapter to one cable...
    A single cable only usable for reading/writing to the security chip...
    Female to Female DB9 connectors.
    Pc side -------->Box side
    Pin 2 -------------> pin 6
    Pin 3 -------------> pin 4
    Pin 5 -------------> pin 5
    Gnd to Gnd
    To read or write to the ferrari security chip, use a terminal program as putty or windows hyperterminal.
    Use the Bits per Seconds value 19200
