I have original DM 800 HD and I want to connect fan to cool down DM. What I did so far is that I place a fan in HDD rack and connect the fan on USB port but the problem is when I turn the DM off the fan is still working so the question is how to connect fan so when I turn DM off the fan should stop working .
Depends a bit off which type of motherboard you have. But the usb doesn't switch off when the box is turned off from the remote control. Later models have an fan, and are controlled by the scart voltage. However this is for 5v fans with a low amp consumption. Another option is to use a fan with a temperature probe, or add a temperature controller between the fan. The HDD power connector P10 has the same 5v voltage as the P8 connectors, they are on the same circuit. It has only two active pins, the outer is the plus side, other the ground. P10 HDD connector, P8 Connector has the same two connections as the P10, on this photo it has a 3 wired fan, but you can see the red/black wires.
