Did you ever wondered like me what will happen when you place an extra nand flash chip, will it gives more Mb's ?. After all, there is an empty place to add an extra nand flash chip, and all the solder pins are connected as it should. Well, it take a while, actually years too late to test this, but I had now the idea and the time to see what happens when you add an extra nand flash chip. And surprisingly... unfortunately nothing, just the same amount of Mbs as before. Thus, after years, is this question now answered. Will be continued......
Why you tried the SSL83 ? You should use the SSL84 to test such behavior (it manages the Flash Memory better). TS
Because that were on it, and I assumed that it didn't mattered. But tomorrow I will try it with a higher ssl, and the latest Japhar image file to see what happens.
It was an used chip, which I also had tested in my programmer, and came from another dm8000hd box, thus I assume it is in the correct format. But when not, it still has to give a higher MB's with it.
Another board, placed the xtra nand flash chip on it, tested it with the ssl84/ssl84J but same results. Also, I noticed that DreamUp or Japhar flasher, not activate the flash button. Board only reachable and to upgrade with the browser. In any case, based on my experiments, it does not work. Some Note, before you noticed that both has the same serial number, and mac address etc. Yes that's because both had the same bios rom, one is a copy from the other.
It has physically showed the 2nd flash and expends the memory but I think still it needs to remap it then there is a chance it should activate the Dreamup flash button.
Yeah I can not exclude that there may other ways to activate the second flash chip, maybe it can be added with some programming into the image file. But I think it may also be programmed in the CPU or other chip that doesn't allow you to use more MBs than this. In any case, this test was to answer the question, that was asked for years ago several times, what happens if I add an extra nand flash chip, will it work.... Well to my opinion, and due these testings, it does not work by just placing the extra chip.
No any other chip and no cpu . The one and only thing which works and holds the flash map is boot loader . its SSL SSL( Second Stage loader ) & why it is ? because it works like bridge between hardware and enigma . Thats the reason in the journey from ssl 82 to 84 or 87 The developers has updated the map /script in through it .
BIOS (basic input/output system) is the programmed chip manages data flow between the motherboad 's operating system and attached devices. In this device ( Dm8000) only ssl has the main key to register the flash memory size .
