    hi guys,
out of the blu my glorious dm800 stopped working.
at first it has some issues with non present tuner, but a simple reboot fixed the issues.
yesterday after a reboot i get the error! on screen, and no matter which image i flash i keep on getting this error.
i've already used dreamup/japhar/nfc sim2, but after a success flash i keep on getting same error! message.
seems the simcard is not readed anymore, but i don't have another dm800 to test it with.
i was checking the q8 voltages as this thread explain:
    https://jb8a8f8.com/support/index.php?threads/sim-card-issues.8/

but i get some different values on q8:
in ohm reading i get 1.5kohm up to pin2 of q8 and from there 23.2Kohm

    and in voltage readings:
    s-d: 0.41v
    d-s: 2.32v
    s-d:0v
    g-d:0v
    s-g:2.32v
    g-s:2.9v (instead of 0)

checking the sim slot without the simcard i get the same values:
    1 from 5v than drop to 0
2 RST 4.9v than low value
3 4.9v than 2.2v and down to low value
    7 4.48v

with the simcard i get pin2-7 values as like the simcard is not present, and on pin1 it drops from 5v to 1.4v

it worth a try to replace the q8 it or is a simcard issue?

@toysoft qualche asso nella manica con la soluzione magica ce l'hai? ;)

    thanx

When a sim card has issues, then all voltages and other pins may drop to lower, also noticeable when the sim card has been removed, and the values of the sim card slot are measuring fine, but become wrong when the sim card has been placed.
Ohm values does not have to be into the same value I had shown on the drawings, as long it's into range it should be fine with exception of resistor values.
Be also aware that when the board has been powered on, end turn off for ohm values measurements, the values are different due the low voltages in caps etc which first needs to be have the time to be unloaded.

I think, check the F2 fuse both sides by voltage, if both sides gives the same value.
Other way may also by ohm measurements to check the in/out of the F2 fuse to see if both sides has the same ohm value.

As for the Q8, best is to check it, when it's on the motherboard.. by diode measurements and without a sim card.

Measurements should to be done between a ground spot, and the measurement spot.

that's what i've done and you can see the result in the previous post (ohm without power, and voltage of course with power on).

powered off, on both side 1.63kohm
powered on with or without sim card: 5.004v, 4.997v

also i've checked the boot process using the uart, but with or without the sim i get same message:
    Code:
    (c) 2007,2008 Dream Multimedia GmbH. All rights reserved.
    Dreambox DM800
    FIRST STAGE 1.00 {BE3E3E3E3E3}
Second stage loader wasn't found. Don't panic - it's not a (real) problem.
You don't need to repair your Dreambox. It just means that the flashrom with
the graphical menu was erased. You can restore this with a tool like DreamUp
    with serial access.

This error generally means the sim card is dead, need to replace it.

it's a pity because finding a new simcard costs like the device itself... a dm800 is like 30-40 used...
there is no way to "revive" the sim? maybe injecting some voltage on it?

Yes, it's a pitty if the replacement sim is not a Japhar, as these are lost definitely... if it's Japhar, the Japhar Sim is compatible with DM800HDpvr as you have, but also can be reused on DM800HDse V1, DM800HDse V2, DM500HD, DM8000HD, DM520HD, DM525HD, DM900UHD ;o), so it's far from lost investment... and it will give you at least 2-3 years more life to your DM800HDpvr with latest images for it (and compatibility to all clone images).

i have just a dm800. for 30$ i can get an used one, so i have also some spare parts as backup if something goes wrong with it.
a japhar cost me more than the dream itself, not worth it imho...

Not if it is not a Japhar NC3 sim card, only these can be reprogrammed.
Other type cards can not be reprogrammed.

    @Johnny B.
you think the q8 is working fine?
i don't like much the S-G readings. it's supposed to be open on one side and i get voltage on both readings... (no psu/no sim)
    s-g:2.32v
    g-s:2.9v (instead of 0)

EDIT: i've also tested q6 on board (same mosfet), and i get same readings as q8, so i guess i can rule out the bad mosfet option

EDIT2: i have an old phoenix/smartmouse with me, can i use it to have a try reading the sim? which soft/settings i need? thanx

    ok,
so @toysoft is it possible to read somehow with a serial phoenix/smartmouse the sim 2.01? just to test if is gone or not?
which soft i need to do so?
    thanx

You can read with any reader to see if you have an ATR (Answer to Reset), this could confirm the sim is still alive, but data could be corrupted in the sim.

Let us know how it goes, and what you get for the ATR. You can also use with a PCSC reader my software DM_Sims, you can find below,

    Grazie del consiglio,
Unfortunately the soft dmsims doesn’t detect any compatible reader (So i suppose The phoenix/smartmouse is not supported).

You need to use a PC/SC Windows compliant smartcard reader, it's used for example to login on windows with a smartcard, or used for Health cards, bank cards when you do online payments, PKI smartcards, etc.
