    hi Johnny,
sorry its me again, Klaus. As usual I do have something special again, and you the one who could help
    maybe.
My Vu+ Solo² se is bricked. I do have two questions in this regard.
    1. Is it possible to change the the Toshiba nand chip against a new one and programm this after replacement by BBS? or
    2. Is it necessary to change the broken one against a nand already programmed with the bootloader. If the answer is yes where can buy this programmed version of Toshiba. To change the chip I can do myselve.
Or can You see an other possibility.
An answer to that would be very nice.
    greetings

    Hi klaus,

Question 1, Yes but only the correct bootloader for repairing the usb flash option,
After it you need to upload the correct image file on the normal way.

Question 2, No not needed to replace the nand flash chip if it has no, or less bad sectors, or just can be programmed with the Bbs/flash Jtag(I2c) method.
It only need to be replaced if you are not be able to fix it with Bbs.

For some more information about it see the topic on sat-universe.

    Hi Johnny,
thanks for the quick answer. It sounds good what You are said, but I tried already to rich the processor by bbs but I couldn`t due to the fact, that I am not shure what Processor is build in- 7356 and 7346 does not work for me.
The cooler are very tied on the chip, I don`t know how to use it.

    I've never heard of a solo 2 with a bcm7346, only with the bcm7356.
Same as the wiki vuboxes information tels about it.

And yes the cooler may have been clued (white paste) on the cpu, and basically can't be removed without damaging the cpu, or motherboard.
So, it's better not to remove it.

If you can't get a connection with the bbs you need to try several tricks.
One is, see the hardware overview when you connect the cypress board with the usb cable.
It should give into the Usb controllers the Broadcom test adapter when you have connect it, and turned on.

However in some cases it won't, for example if you already have connected the scl/sda pins to the motherboard.

Best in not to connect the scl/sda to the motherboard, only the ground, connect the usb to the computer, turn the cyp board on, check if it recognize it as the Broadcom test adapter.
If so, start the Bbs program, when ready connect the scl/sda pins, switch the box on etc.

One note, if you connect the scl/sda wires wrong, then the Cypress board will disconnect from the computer and also not be recognized into the Usb controllers device list.

Do You think this 97358 will do the job? I´ll try. I do have the Toshiba TC58NVG1S3ETA00 installed on board- You think You can replace it, with the bootloader pre-programmed? Its for the worstcase.

I can not say if this Bcm97358.msi can be used for the bcm97356.
But it may be, or maybe when you rename the Bcm97358.device file to Bcm97356.device in the map Drivers and edit the <device name="Bcm97358" type="Broadcom.Driver.ReferenceBoard.Bcm97358">
    to <device name="Bcm97356" type="Broadcom.Driver.ReferenceBoard.Bcm97358">
    it may pick it up.

As for the nand flash replacement, yes I can do that.
But programming, prepare it is another story.
For that I need normally a backup made with a programmer, but mostly I prepare them with a normal vu duo box which has an nand flash socket.

thank You, for the answer. If I understand You right You can prepare a socket in place of the nand so it is possible just to plug the nand in? Can You provide an emty Toshiba with the socket? I am unable to find the Brodband studio 3.1 do You have a copy? Qestions, questions .....
    greetings
    Klaus

Well, not really, what I had said was that I have a Vu duo box which I use for preparing nand flash chips.
But of course I could add a socket to your motherboard but swapping the nand flash chips need to be done gently because the nand flash chip socket solder to the motherboard is fragile.
Also, there must be enough room to add a socket.

I use these TSOP 48 Sockets.

    TSOP48 TSOP 48 Socket.JPG

Q: providing the Toshiba chip with socket.
I'm not sure if I have the Toshiba chip, but as for the nand socket I have.
Q: Bbs3, see on the Japhar site topic Vu+ JTag Broadcom Tools
    Q Spam, no clue why.

    thanks Johnny,
today Your mail was delivered normaly to me?
I was searching for the BBS 3.1, the version 3 I have because You find them everywhere.
I think it is better to put the nand directly on the board due to missing space .

    About the bbs3.1 version.
If you take some later downloads as for the Cloud boxes then you have the Bbs3.1 version.
Like this package related to the Bcm97358 from Cloud-Ibox.net

As far as I know it has mostly the Toshiba TC58NVG1S3ETA00
If the Samsung chip will work, I van not say for sure, it depends if the cpu support this type chip.
But did you have tried the jtag method to fix it, it seems to me possible.

It's better to give some more info as,
Can you flash the box on the normal way, and so with usb.
Does it has a steady blue led, or different.
Do you have a working front display.
If so, what is the status.
Did you have checked the box with the rs232 serial port and a terminal program, so yes what does it say.

And not sure if it's suitable for your box, but maybe this is something to read..

    hi Johnny,
just my actual status in that case. I could manage in the end that the box react on the Flash MCU Tool so I could manage with HT to place the solo2_bootloader Solo se.bin and or the solo2_bootloader Lonrisun.dat with success. But to load the image via usb to the box will not work.
It would be very interresting how ghenti could manage to do the jtag without the bcm97356?

Okay, so it is accessible trough the rs232 port, that's at least something.
And yeah well, I do not thing that a image file can be uploaded with the rs232 port, at least I can't find it on the inet.

    As for the usb failure,
Maybe a issue with the 5v, maybe it succeed if you use a usb hub with a own power source.
Maybe it just won't work due a wrong boot loader.

Tjag question, yeah indeed because there is no bbs bcm97356 download as far a I know at this moment.

    hi ghenti,
how did You manage to do the jtag? Where You get the bbs bcm97356 from? Whould be nice hearing from You.

    Johnny,
thanks for the answers. 5v for the USB is ok, I tested as well now with an hub and external power supply.
It must be possible to load the the image via HT, because i did the same with the bootloader. The point is to now
the corect orders and location where the different files needs to be stored (kernel etc...)

    Hi Johnny
The blues led is steady. I tested the USB but there is no 5V. With mcu there is a flash failure.
