    Evening all,

Have a Sunray Solo 2, up until today has been working fine with a patched version of Openvix v5.3 installed.

Today, upon booting up the LCD advises 'Starting' as normal, then displays FPGA Update a few times, and then after 10 seconds or so, LCD displays HW error.

Have tried flashing very old versions of BH (v2.0.9), and Openvix (Helios v016) - looks like it flashes the firmware ok.

Upon rebooting, same HW error appears on LCD screen.

    Unit has K9F2G08U0C-SCB0 Nand flash.

Have tried the Sunray updater tool, didn't seem to do much to resolve unfortunately.

Are there any further diagnostic steps I can perform ?, or should I replace the Nand chip ?

    Many thanks, Vaughn.

As far as I know blackhole 2.0.9 was not modified for Sunray solo2 . it was the last version for Lonrison solo2 .Blackhole-2.1.2 was the first modified image by my old friend Rami Maher for sunray solo2 . Anyway avoid using lonrison solo2 images/backups for sunray box . it will over write the sunray's security measures . There is currently one and only OpenAtv modified image is available which is most clone friendly.
    try it

    Cheers Ali.

    Tried, same HW error.

Are the FPGA security chip known to fail on these boxes, or is the Nand flash chip the likely culprit ?

Based on my experiences related to the HW Error, then it's often related to the fpga chip.
Wrong updated, or at least not compatible with the image file or security chip.
Often and unknown why, no longer accept (at least, it looks that way) another fpga update.

Maybe there are other reasons regarding this HW Error sign, but till now I'll stay with the idea that it is telling as that it has issues reading/accessing the fpga chip.

Yes agree with Johnny's idea that currently it can be the issue of accessing FPGA chip.
Well dreamoem team had released an Sunray security update in its last days before shutting down their forum.
I think you should also try that update . If you have already tried it then ignore my post .
let me find it for you . May be I had saved it even I dont have sunray solo2 .

Wonderful replies, thanks Johnny, and Ali.

It's definitely worth a look at the files you linked.

If all else fails, is the FPGA security chip replaceable ?, I have a hot air gun etc...

If so, what chip model is it ?, as the manufacturer/model has been scratched off at factory.

Edit: Unfortunately, the Sunray updater failed to fix the issue. I have noticed that the motherboard is a v2 motherboard, my other Sunray clone has a v5 I believe, the Nand flash chip on it is removable via pin headers, very very easy to replace. On the v2 board, Nand chip is soldered in place. As per above - if you guys believe its the FPGA security chip which is at fault - is it replaceable ?

The chip is the ProASIC3 A3PN125 and with some skills replaceable by using a hot air gun (and even better by using some kapton tape) as you can see here.

However..... as far as I know it must be replaced by taken it from spare parts board, it may even taken from a original, but I do not think that a brand new fpga chip will work, even after (if you know how to do) the fpga upgrade to a new chip, it seems to me that it not will work.
Otherwise it was easy to convert a clone board to a original.

    Thanks Johnny, once again.

Would you happen to have any for sale ?

Otherwise, I think it'll become a spares board.

Maybe I still have the clone Lonrisun fpga chip, It was working before it removed, I only have it replaced for a original to see what happened etc.

But as far I know, I do not have the original fpga chip which would be a better choice.

But it's now weekend, thus not earlier than Monday I'm be able to see what I still have of it.
But probably only the clone version.

Excellent - let me know if you still have it.

Would it work ok in a Sunray though ?

I have no clue if a Lonrisun fpga chip will work on a Sunray.
Maybe it does, or not, it is at least not/never tested as far as I know.

    Worth a shot I guess.

I have some Kafton tape here aswell, bought some recently for use with my 3D printer.

Not sure why you need kapton tape for a 3d printer because I also have a few of 3d printers but never needed.

But to come back to the fpga chip, I still have it from the Lonrisun, and I could sent it to you if you like.
if so, give your address by a private message, click on the contact option under my avatar picture.

But just to be clear, it's not sure if it will work on a Sunray, and a better choice would be to replace it for a fpga chip from a original motherboard, then you could also remove/disable the security chip, and using original image files.
But.. be aware that I have successfully tested it on a Lonrisun board, and not Sunray
